With a range of top quality golf courses in Andalusia, take to the fairways during a Kukutana stay

The Kukutana Team

With plenty of spectacular courses to choose from in our corner of Andalusia, combined with warm, sunny weather all year round, a round of golf or two is a great option for guests at Kukutana. Here we run through a handful of our favourite courses

Real Club Pineda

The oldest course in Seville, the Real Club Pineda golf course was built in the 1940s around the equestrian and country club of the same name. Approximately an hour from Kukutana and situated in the outskirts of the alluring city of Seville – the capital of Andalusia known for its rich heritage, architecture and culinary scene – a visit to Pineda could easily be combined with a visit in to the heart of the city itself.

The golf course itself is a grand, 18 hole offering, characterised by generous fairways and plentiful vegetation, including mature pines and palms that line each hole. Well-placed water hazards and bunkers protect many of the fairly small greens, offering a lovely balance to create an interesting, challenging but comfortably navigated course.

The course was built in two stages, with the original course only 9 holes, and the subsequent 9 added in the 1990s; visitors will note the changing style as they move through the 18 holes, offering some additional variety throughout the round.

A putting green, chipping area and driving range, along with club rental, trolleys and buggies, a pro shop and golf school, are all also available onsite.

In addition, given its setting within the beautiful Real Club Pineda, various other additional facilities are available, including tennis, padel, croquet, a pool and gym, along with a bar to enjoy post-round refreshments. The equestrian club and stables is also well worth a visit.

Golf El Rompido

“36 holes of pure nature” is how Golf El Rompido is often described, and it is certainly a fitting description. The two courses – the North course and the South course – situated alongside marshes and wetlands of the Piedro River close to the Portuguese border (just over an hour from Kukutana), are enveloped by woodland, grasslands, rivers and reeds, offering incredible views and a wholesome connection to the surrounding landscapes.

The South course, built first in 2003, is suitable for golfers of all levels, with large greens backed by towering pines and wild olive trees. A flat course which is easily played on foot, the pleasing rural views and natural location are the perfect location to enjoy a few hours on the course. Wind your way over boardwalks across the wetlands that connect the back 9 to the rest of the course, all overlooked by the iconic El Rompido lighthouse beyond.

The North course followed in 2006 and is a monument to innovative, nature-based golf course design. With slightly smaller greens and a layout that requires a combination of power and precision, the course edges and interacts with the marshland beyond, which often surrounds the greens and approaches on three sides. Combined with strategically placed bunkers and trees, players will be challenged and entertained in equal manner.

A hotel and the clubhouse, along with restaurants and bars, a golf academy, swimming pool and tennis courts sit within the South course; the clubhouse terrace offers spectacular views over the course and across the marshes, the Piedra river, and the Atlantic ocean beyond.

The club also provides club rental, trolleys, golf buggies and a caddie service, whilst a driving range, chipping area and putting green provide an opportunity to warm up before the round.

Real Club Sevilla Golf

The course was designed by two-time major champion Jose Maria Olazabal, and has played host to various European Tour events, including both the Andalusia Open and the Spanish Open, as well as the Ryder Cup.

With wide fairways surrounded by extensive tree cover, along with well-protected greens defended by 90 bunkers and 9 lakes, the course offers a thoroughly enjoyable round for amateurs and experts alike. The course is known for being immaculately maintained and presented throughout the year, and recently ranked as one of the top five courses in Spain by Golf Digest magazine.

Visitors can arrange lessons, club rental, and caddies, whilst trolleys, electric trolleys and golf buggies are also available. There is a driving range, chipping area and putting green for practice. Just an hour from Kukutana and another course on the outskirts of Seville, this is another good option to combine with a visit to the city centre.

In addition to this stunning course, there is tennis and padel, and a bar and restaurant for players to quench their thirst and refuel after a round.

Club de golf Las Minas

Just 25 minutes from Kukutana, Las Minas is a relaxed and informal 9 hole course built around a restored 19th Century Andalusian hacienda of the same name.

A pretty, unassuming course that was built for less experienced golfers in mind, the surrounding olive trees, orange trees and pines, combined with the four lakes that are scattered strategically around the course, provides an entertaining round for anyone looking for a relaxing 9-hole round.

A long par five, and large tee platforms that allow the holes to be lengthened, mean this course is also suitable for more experienced players looking to play a traditional, less formal, rural Andalusian course.

All standard facilities, including club hire, trolleys and buggies are available, whilst the club also has a driving range, putting green and pitching area.

Las Minas is perfect for a half-day outing, meaning Kukutana guests can still enjoy a morning or afternoon excursion, and be back in time for sundowners!

Barceló Montecastillo Golf Resort

Built around a 19th Century castle just outside Jerez, an hour and a half from Kukutana, the 18 hole course at Barceló Montecastillo has played host to various European Tour events over the years.

Designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, the 72 par course offers large, fast greens and wide fairways over a lovely, gently undulating course. Surrounded by mature pine and palm trees, and with lakes and fairway bunkers scattered across the course, Montecastillo is a picturesque course that offers an interesting and challenging round whilst also being thoroughly pleasing on the eye.

Typical amenities, including club rental, trolleys and buggies and a caddy service, as well as a pro shop, lessons, practice areas, a driving range and putting green, are all available.

What’s more, the hotel’s U-Spa offers massage treatments, a pool, saunas and hot tub, and there are also restaurants and bars in the hotel – perfect for a post-round wind-down.

Club Zaudín Golf

Another club on the outskirts of Seville, and less than an hour from Kukutana, Club Zaudín was designed by Gary Player, widely considered one of the greatest players of all time.

The 18 hole, 71 par course is a picturesque course made up of wide, undulating, tree-lined fairways, water features and strategically placed bunkers. Orange and olive trees surround the course, whilst the elegant white washed clubhouse provide an appealing backdrop to players coming up the 17th and 18th.

The course is also home to training school Metrix Golf, where players can take lessons and have their swing analysed and assessed by the resident professionals using camera technology, before taking advantage of the Calloway custom-fitting club service.

A driving range, putting green and chipping area are available, whilst visitors can also rent clubs, trolleys and buggies as needed. A caddie service is also on offer.

Beyond the golf course, a swimming pool, tennis and padel courts, as well as bar and restaurant, complete the picture at this pleasing ground.

If you would like to incorporate golf in to your stay with us at Kukutana, please get in touch with the team and we would be happy to provide more information.
