A living tradition in Andalusia

Experience a romería from within

There are days when the countryside paths fill with horses, carriages and families.

From different villages across Andalusia, the brotherhoods set out towards a shared destination: the shrine of El Rocío.

Music drifts through the pine forests.
Dust rises along the way, accompanying the slow movement of the day.

These are days of romería.

At Kukutana, we open the door to those who wish to understand this tradition from within, accompanying some of the brotherhoods that each year travel the paths of the Aljarafe and the edges of Doñana.

A deeply rooted tradition

The shared journey of a romería

Romerías are one of Andalusia’s most enduring traditions, where horses, families and brotherhoods travel together along the countryside paths.

A romería is not an event.
It is a shared journey.

From early in the morning, the brotherhoods set out from their villages; some on horseback, others in carriages, many on foot.

For hours, the path becomes a place of gathering, where people sing, talk and share food under the shade of the trees.

To join a romería is to walk alongside those who live it year after year.

Experiencing a romería

Each romería begins early. Horses are prepared. Carriages are adorned. Families gather before setting out on the path.

Throughout the day, the journey moves through countryside paths, pine forests and marshlands, with guests joining on horseback, on foot or by carriage.

At the end of the day, the countryside returns to silence. What remains is the feeling of having been part of something that still lives on.

Those who make the journey possible

Accompanying a tradition from within

At Kukutana, we believe traditions are only truly understood from within.

Our team has lived and worked in this region for years, building close relationships with the communities and brotherhoods that travel these paths each season.

Thanks to these relationships, some guests are invited to accompany parts of the romería, always with respect for those who keep this tradition alive.

Horses, the countryside and local culture are a natural part of life at Kukutana.

It is from this closeness that these experiences are shared.

A landscape of paths and traditions

Between Seville and the edge of Doñana

Kukutana is set between the Aljarafe countryside of Seville and the edges of Doñana National Park.

A landscape where horses are still part of everyday life, and where many brotherhoods begin their journey towards El Rocío.

Pine forests, marshlands, sandy paths and villages that keep their traditions alive shape the landscape through which many romerías pass.

From here, it is possible to accompany parts of these journeys and come to understand one of Andalusia’s most deeply rooted cultural expressions.
